We all experience times of anguish and crisis, and many of us have felt the benefit of praying with others, or knowing that others are praying for us. Prayer ministry takes many forms.
Names placed on the noticeboard in the church entrance are read out in our prayers of intercession in the Sunday Parish Eucharist. Those on the noticeboard by the candle stand in the church are prayed for during our weekday masses.
The vicar is happy to visit you at home or hospital and pray with you; or to do so at church.
Prayer can be informal and extempore, or we can use the written word. We can light candles, or spend time contemplating an icon or another work of art.
When we are ill or distressed, it can be helpful to have hands prayerfully placed on our head or shoulders. This can be done by anyone authorized by the local church – lay or ordained.
It can also be helpful for a priest to anoint us with oil, for which we have asked God’s blessing. Anointing of the sick (or those in distress) is one of the seven sacraments of the church.
These are just a few ways of seeking God’s comfort and support. If you would like the support of the church’s ministry of prayer, please contact the vicar.
If there is any other way in which we might be able to give you pastoral support, please let us know.
