Community & Church Hall

The church’s links with the wider community include the church school - St Paul’s with St Michael’s - as well as the many groups that meet in the church hall. Apart from the groups mentioned below, the hall is often used by cultural associations, and for public meetings by local residents.

The church building is a significant resource for London Fields. Although it is well used, the building needs restoring and updating. St Michael’s Building Committee is steering the church through building redevelopment work. For an update on how this is progressing contact Alan Everett.

Hackney Winter Nightshelter

Members of St Michael’s, St John the Baptist RC Church and other local residents provide voluntary support for an evening meal, overnight accommodation and breakfast for homeless people every Sunday in the church hall from 1st January to 31st March. A local Methodist church offers overflow accommodation.

Six other churches in Hackney cover Monday to Saturday in this period.

In 2008, the Winter Nightshelter provided 2016 beds, 2016 breakfasts, and 3000 suppers for 182 guests. The Shelter helped 25 guests out of homelessness.

There are further details about the Winter Nightshelter, or contact Tigger.
